WANA has published a collection of stories by Dave Walker recounting the lives of the people of Witherley, and farming practicies in the middle of the last century. Editor Rhiannon Taylor tells us "Dave Walker, having been born and raised in Glenfield on the edge of Leicester, came to work here though a scheme placing boys raised in cities to work on farms.  His stories are a wonderful record of rural life in Witherley, of long forgotten farming practices, of the hardships but also the warmth of mutual support and cooperation which got working people through the hard times."

Witherley then was a small, rural place: the three farms in the village together with the Hall and Rectory and the Atherstone Hunt all provied employment. Those that could not work here had to walk to work in the pits at Baxterley or Dordon, or the hat factories in Atherstone.  Lives were hard; families were raised in primitive cottages with, in most cases, no indoor sanitation.

Beautifully presented as a fortypage paper back booklet. Email hello@wana.org.uk and order your copy now.
