Welcome to Our Site

WANA is a constituted community organisation aiming to unite neighbours and enhance community well-being in the village of Witherley and the hamlet of Atterton in South-West Leicestershire. WANA is committed to reducing loneliness and improving social participation within the community. Together, we have a stronger voice to tackle the issues that affect us and are better positioned to collaborate with local councils and partners to help to find solutions.

Let's celebrate our five prizewinners who successfully discovered the WANAbee's hiding spot!  First prize goes to Sophia being the first correct entry out of the hat, followed by Ted, Fearne, Phoebe and Florence!
Our fun and free competition encourages families to get outside during the Easter Holidays and comb the village in search of a hidden WANAbee.

This year, our little Bee found a cosy home in the corner of the Playing Field, right next to our lovely new nature garden. It's a delightful, tranquil place designed to attract pollinators. Thanks to the thoughtful efforts that have gone into creating this tiny garden, we've a wonderful environment here  encouraging bees to forage and gather pollen and nectar—a perfect spot to visit.

BEST DRESSED HOME FOR EASTER
A big thank you to everyone who participated in this competition helping to make Witherley look so Eggcellent this Easter!  The prizes were awarded on Monday, 21st April, with first place going to Jack for his innovative night and day display with Fred and Val placed second.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY WANA

We honour our Steering Group Members and WANA Bee volunteers, whose invaluable contributions since January 2024 have been instrumental in shaping the vision of WANA's founding members.   Together, we have developed social activity programmes and taken action to help solve community issues.   We've established a management team and created structures to support our work. These structures, which include the development of our Constitution, statements, and policies, are essential for maintaining best-practice governance at the core of our activities. We have also been strengthening our digital presence to extend our reach within the community.

I am deeply proud of WANA's accomplishments in it's first year.  Thank you to my fellow officers and Steering Group Members and a very special thank you to the WANA Bee team of volunteers. None of what we do would be possible without you.

Reflecting on our activities and achievements during 2024, I am excited about the remarkable projects and milestones we will accomplish together in 2025 and the coming years.

Pick Up the Poop

In 2025, a campaign will be launched to address a persistent problem of dog fouling in Witherley Village.

Witherley C.E. Primary School showcased remarkable talent when pupils enthusiastically participated in a design competition for notices aimed at reminding dog owners to pick up the poop - a blight on the walk to school.

Our WANAbee Volunteers

WANA's greatest asset is its team of enthusiastic volunteers. Led by Joy Simpson they are enthusiastic about organising WANA events and welcoming everyone along to them. There is always something exciting happening.

Working with other community groups we create a calendar of events, including gatherings, workshops, and classes.
