We are thrilled to announce the installation of WANA's second community defibrillator at the Parish Room on Chapel Lane. The defibrillator is fully operational, connected to the East Midlands Ambulance service, and registered on the national defibrillator network: The Circuit. With the addition of the new defibrillator, Witherley has three devices which could potentially save the life of someone in cardiac arrest.
A very generous mystery donor (affectionately known as 'HEARTSY' at WANA HQ!) has donated thousands of pounds worth of life-saving equipment including two defibrillators all installed in bright yellow cabinets for easy access in case of emergencies.
The locations of the defibrillators are as follows:
1. The Blue Lion in Witherley, located in the archway leading from the car park - owned and managed by Witherley Parish Council.
2. Hunt Lane, situated on street, fixed to a wall close to the junction with Kennel Lane - owned and managed by WANA.
3. Witherley Parish Room on Chapel Lane, affixed to the exterior wall to the right of the door close to Atterton Lane - owned and managed by WANA.
Additionally, the cabinet in Hunt Lane contains a red pack which is a haemorrhage control kit,. This can be used to control and stop severe bleeding until medical help arrives. This kit is an initiative of the Daniel Baird Foundation charity, named after Daniel, a young man who was the victim of a fatal stabbing. The foundation aims to provide support and resources for managing catastrophic bleeding from various causes, including car accidents or home or work-related injuries. More information about the charity can be found on the Daniel Baird Foundation website.
In case of an emergency, call 999. The emergency services will provide instructions to unlock the nearest defibrillator and if necessary how to get the catastrophic bleed kit.
Finally, we encourage you to watch this informative video produced by the British Heart Foundation and learn more about how to use a defibrillator.
